A. Marie Dardas

A. Marie Dardas, 88, of Essexville, our loving, caring, strong-willed, and most faithful mother, grandma, and great-grandma passed away on the evening of Monday, May 7, 2018. Marie was born in Chelsea, MA on September 24, 1929 and baptized at Star of the Sea Church. She earned a B.A. in 1965 and a M.A. in 1969 from Central Michigan University. Marie taught at Hughes School for 20 years and was also employed by the Bay City School District for five and one-half years. On January 25, 1947, Marie married Howard C. Dardas, giving birth to two sons, Howard C. Dardas, Jr. and Matthew A. Dardas. She became a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in August of 1946 and was active in church activities including Altar Guild, Women’s Guild, and Quilter’s Group. Marie will forever be remembered for her independent and gracious ways. A true “Jill of all Trades,” Marie enjoyed fishing, clogging, cooking, and baking. Her German potato salad and delicious cinnamon rolls were true family favorites. Marie’s largest life accomplishment was raising a beautiful family and teaching them to always love and support one another. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Matthew A. Dardas, Sr. and daughter-in-law, Mary Dardas. Marie was the most loving grandma of Todd (Tina) Dardas, Anne (Bryan) Wallace, Matt (fiancé, Kelli) Dardas, Jr., Jason (Jennifer) Dardas, Andrea (Joshua) LaFramboise and the “Gigi” of Jackson, Rohan, Divya, Evyn, Brennan, Kelsey, Henry, Penelope, and twins, Liam and Logan. Marie was welcomed home to heaven by her husband on March 11, 1990; her son, Howard Jr. on June 22, 2000, and her sister, Doris Louzan on July 18, 1976. Marie’s family will be present to receive visitors at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1705 Nebobish Ave., Essexville, on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 10:00 AM until Marie’s 11:00 AM Memorial Ceremony. Rev. Erwin Hutter will officiate with inurnment to follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to McLaren Hospice or Pilgrim Lutheran Church. I am so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
I remember her special recipe for her famous meatballs. She was such a good cook. Very funny and witty and would always tell it like it is. She was a very strong willed woman. But then again so am I. We got along well. She will be missed by many. Our Lord now has 1 more angel to fill his kingdom. Til we meet again.
Grandma Dardas was a smart, independent, educated, and strong women. She was also very warm, loving, and open. She set the standards high, and never settled. Grandma Dardas welcomed me into her family without question and I am so thankful for her. I can only hope my children, her great- grand children, will have those same qualities as their great Grandma Dardas. My children gained a beautiful guardian angel and we are so thankful for her.
