Anthony Richard VanPelt

September 9, 2016
Anthony Richard "Tony" VanPelt, 87, of Bay City, our devoted and loving father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on the morning of Friday, September 9, 2016 at Bay Medical Care Facility. Tony was born in Bay City on June 29, 1929, the son of the late Anthony F. and Blanche (Wejrowski) VanPelt. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Betty Vaughn who preceded him in death on October 6, 2001. Tony worked for many years as a millwright at Defoe and retired from General Motors. He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, enlisting at the age of 17 and serving during World War II. He was a proud member of the Eagles Aerie #1010 where he loved to volunteer. Tony also loved his trips on the bus to the casino and even won the first Harley given away by Soaring Eagle. Tony will forever be remembered for his love of camping, card playing, and fishing. He leaves to cherish his memory six children; Tony deeply loved his six pack: Anthony C. VanPelt and his special friend, Beverly, Keith and wife, Kathy VanPelt, Gayle VanPelt, Valarie and husband, John Fletcher, Roxanne and husband, Alan Lamblin, and Vicki and husband, Charlie Stonehouse. His memory will live on in the hearts of his sixteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; in-laws, Betty VanPelt, Sharon Cornejo, and Hazel VanPelt. In addition to his parents and his wife, Tony was welcomed home to heaven by his siblings, Marie Herber, Burton VanPelt, Donald VanPelt, Gerald VanPelt, and in-laws, Claude and Violet Vaughn. Tony's family will be present to receive visitors on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Eagles Ritual and again on Monday, September 12, 2016 from 9:00 AM until the time of his 10:00 AM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Interment will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, or the U.S.S. Edson, a cause he was truly passionate about. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
