Beverly "Joan" Boyce, 81, of Bay City, our caring, generous and loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Carriage House. Joan was born in Royal Oak on December 22, 1932, the daughter of the late Jack and Dorothy (Mackinder) Boyce. She spent her young adult life in Royal Oak and in 1966 her family relocated to Essexville. Joan worked at Bay Medical Care Facility during the 1970's, where she served as union president for many years. She will forever be remembered for her love of our country, generosity, love of family, gardening, quilting, cake decorating, genealogy and love of animals. Joan is survived by her children, Carol (Richard) Spencer and their son, Rick, Mike (Pam Sook) Bell; daughter-in-law, Mary Bell and her children, Heather (Eric) Bridenbaugh and Zachary Bell. Joan is also survived by her sister, Beatrice (John) Havranek, brothers, Lloyd (Dee) Boyce and Gary Boyce; sister-in-law, Patricia Forgash, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her son, Robert Bell; husband, Dale Purtell; former husband, James Bell and sister-in-law, Diane Boyce. We love and miss you Mom, but we know we will be together again one day. Joan's family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 11:00 AM until her 1:00 PM Funeral Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Interment will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Joan may be directed to the Humane Society of Bay County.
