Carol Elaine Barcia, 71, of Rhodes, our devoted, loving, brave, and selfless wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at McLaren Bay Region with her family by her side. Carol was born in Rose City on October 16, 1944, the daughter of the late Dennis and Ethel (Nelson) Cooley. When her mother broke her ankle, she met an ambulance driver by the name of Gerald Allen Barcia. They dated, fell in love, and were eventually united in marriage on September 25, 1962. Jerry and Carol owned and operated the Rainbow Resort for many years. Known for her wonderful cooking and baking skills, Carol also worked for Judy's Pies and Daily Special (where she won the best cook award by the Midland Chamber of Commerce). She was a member of Garfield United Methodist Church in Linwood and loved time spent by the pool, crocheting, but most of all, time spent with her family (especially her grandkids). She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of fifty-three years, Jerry and her children, Karen and husband, Philip Zywicki, Michelle and husband, Brian Campbell, Kim and husband, Joe Krzyminski, Jerry Jr. "Buck" and wife, Paula Barcia, along with her two step-daughters, Susan Musinski and Jerrilynn Schindler and her companion, Jim Killian. Carol was the caring and loving grandma of Brad, Heather, Thomas, Nicole, Jenna, Kayla, Britnie, Josh, Erica, Chad, Chelsea and the great-grandma of Gibsonn. Also surviving are her siblings, Norman and wife, Emma Barber, Jay Barber, Rick and wife, Cathy Cooley, Oliver and wife, Bonnie Barber, Shirley Miller; her sister-in-law, Carol and husband, Robert Cuthbert, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, Carol was welcomed home to heaven by her siblings, Leona Campbell, Ron and Bill Cooley, and her in-laws, Jenny Barber and Clarence Miller. Carol's family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. 10. Words cannot express the sadness my family and I feel for the loss of this “mother to us all,” but mostly my heart breaks for the family she has left behind. What a fine example of a most dedicated, loving mother, grandmother, sister, wife, auntie and mentor. Thank you Carol, for holding me up when times were tough I will think of you often and when there are two butterflies.

  11. I know that from the couple of times i met you, your smile lit up your family and friends. Heather was all the time talking about your cooking. May your wings let you breath comfort to your girls. You will be so missed.

  12. My deepest sympathies to the ehole family and clise friends during this very difficult time. Carol was the most loving and caring person I’ve know. Carol made you feel like you were nust another one of her kids! She welcomed us always at Rainbow resort , and of course she fed us! Whether at her home or anywhere Carol was always catering to everyone , and she did it all with great love and care. May her family find comfort in knowing that she was loved by many and she loved well.

  13. What I remember about Carol the most is her smile. Her whole face glowed with her smile. You felt welcomed when she smiled at you. I loved when she shared praises at church as she healed from her stroke. She was strong. This latest illness was hard and I was very moved when she came to church and talked about the fight, both physically and spiritually. She lifted all of us there with her strength and sharing her faith in the Lord. I’m saddened at losing her but so glad I got to know her. I know we will see her again because of the promise, because of the Good News. To Carols family at this time of great loss and sorrow, we are so sorry, Peace and healing to your heart, in time.

  16. What a wonderful woman!!! I recently had a chance to be her nurse twice. She was always a beautiful, thoughtful, and strong woman. I am very saddened by the news of her passing. Even though I am a Davenport University Student RN – she had a special place in my heart and always will. Determined, kind, generous, and always had a smile on her face. My ultimate prayers and hugs to her family and friends!!!!
