Daniel Roy Van Sumeren

July 12, 2019
Daniel Roy Van Sumeren, 73, of Hampton Twp., our determined, hardworking, faithful, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend was born in eternal life on the morning of July 12, 2019 at his home. Dan was born on July 29, 1945 in Bay City, the son of the late Francis and Grace (VanTol) Van Sumeren. Dan graduated from St. John High School and went on to answer the call of his country, proudly serving in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. On August 21, 1965, Dan married the love of his life, the former Gail Irwin. Together they shared almost 54 years, their wonderful children, and countless memories. Dan was a lifelong parishioner of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church) and a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and AMVets. He owned and operated Dynamic Realty and Auctioneering for 40 years. Dan also enjoyed being a member of The Muskrat Club, and the friendships made along the way. Those who knew Dan, knew of his love for the outdoors; Dan was a very avid sportsman. He loved his time spent at deer camp near Hale and had a true passion for fishing and hunting. Dan will be missed dearly and lovingly remembered for generations to come. He leaves to carry on his legacy, his loving wife, Gail; their two children, Patrick and wife, Michelle of Essexville and Noelle of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; his grandchildren, who were the lights of his life, Gabriel, John, Brendan, Jenae, Blake, and Aric; brother, James (Belma) Van Sumeren, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Dan was welcomed home to heaven by his infant daughter, Kristin and brother, William Van Sumeren. Dan’s family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, July 15, 2019 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Tuesday, July 16, 2019, Dan will be taken to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until the time of Daniel’s 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
I wish to pass on my sympathy to all of Danny’s family. My family was close friends of Danny’s parents so I have known him all of my life. Hampton Township won’t be the same without him.
Sincerely,
Tom Tober
