With heavy hearts we walked our loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Dee Elizabeth Madigan to meet her Lord on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at St. Mary’s of Michigan. Dee was born in Bay City, Michigan on August 9, 1943 to the late Howard and Clara (Barnhardt) Smith. She attended T.L. Handy High where she met the love of her life and husband of 39 years, Jim Madigan. Together they raised four amazing daughters she adored. Dee and Jim married on July 20, 1963. In her younger years she enjoyed camping and scuba diving with her family. For more than 20 years she owned and operated Deezer’s Daycare where she provided excellent loving care to countless lucky children. Dee was a devout Catholic who loved her Lord unconditionally. As a long standing member of Prince of Peace Parish (Sacred Heart Church) in Kawkawlin, Dee spread the word of the Lord as a Eucharistic Minister and RCIA member. She loved volunteering at the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission and made many dear friends at her local low vision support group. Dee shined with a special light you just wanted to be near. When not reading or gardening she was helping others. Her selfless, kind, and loving manner made Dee instantly likable. In addition to her parents, Dee was welcomed home to heaven by her sisters, Rita & Judy, and husband, Jim. She leaves to carry on her legacy her four daughters, Karen (Craig) Golden of Essexville, Janice (Allen) Rollins of Pocatello, ID, Rose (Jim) Davidson of Coleman, and Joan (Marty) Obermiller of Bay City; grandchildren, Josh (Kara), Heather (Jason), Matt (Hope), Julia and Aimee; two great-grandchildren, Frankie and Henry, and one more on the way. She also leaves behind many very special friends including, Gay, Pat, Jan, Andy, and her beloved dog Chloe. Dee’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a 7:30 PM Vigil for the Deceased at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, Dee will be taken to Prince of Peace Parish (Sacred Heart Church), 2510 S. Fraser Rd., Kawkawlin, where visiting will continue from 10:00 AM until the time of her 11:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. T.J. Fleming and Deacon Michael Arnold will officiate, and private interment will be held in Floral Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Dee may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or the Essexville-Hampton Lions Club. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Krystal in 6ICU at St. Mary’s of Michigan, along with her amazing daughter, Karen, whose incredible nursing skills were invaluable in her final days. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.

  1. He only takes the best. To those of us left behind with breaking hearts, we now place she would rather be than with her Lord and her soulmate who she has missed so much,
Uncle Jim. There is no doubt that she earned her wings on Earth, she just couldn’t let them out until Sunday.
Aunt Dee was a lot of things to a lot of people. She was a sister, a soulmate, a moter to four smart, beautiful, lucky women, grandma to four grandchildren she absolutely adored, not to mention two and a half great grandchildren. She was a mentor to many, a teacher and her love for children, a care giver. I am proud to say not only was she my aunt but she taught me, took care of me, and loved me unconditionally. The last several years has been hard for both her and I, but our relationship grew stronger everyday. She always had a positive outlook on life and never failed in amazing me with her strength and couragousness as she fought every challenge given to her. I look up to her and hope that her support is still there. I need a new guardian angel, I keep wearing mine out. She never failed in keeping in touch with me even though we were both home bound. I felt her love and support no matter what. To say she has left a big hole in my life is a huge understatement. She was greatly loved and will be trully missed.
Karen, Janice, Rose, and Joan I know your broken hearts will heal with time but take comfort in the fact that no matter where she is, she’s still your mom. That makes you four very lucky because I know she loved me with her whole heart, I can only imagine her love and comfort you felt. I am deeply sorry for your loss and know you are on my mind always and in my heart forever. Your Loving Cousin, Stacie Mills Brethour

  2. To all the families of Dee,, We will all miss her so much. Dee adopted me at my first lo vision meeting and became fast friends. I will miss shopping with her with her speeding on er electric cart and me shouting dont run me over. There were a few displays knoJan Cosscked over, but we had goods laughs about her lead foot. A very lovely lady indeed.

  3. To all the Madigan family my ßincere sympathies. I have been spending ding alot of my time with my daughter since retiring hence not in Bay City. I have fond memories of both of your parents many graduation parties, cookouts etc. I can only pray that your mom is happy to be with your dad now. Beth DeBolt

  4. I remember Dee from GSRM. She was a very encouraging lady at the front desk. As II Timothy 4:7&8 says Dee “has fought the faith, she has finished the race, she has kept the faith. Now there is in store for her the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award her on that day and not only her, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.” She has arrived. May you all find comfort knowing that she is with the Lord. Be comforted by the Holy Spirit.
