Elsie Turschak-Krause, 91, of Essexville, our loving and devoted mother and grandmother was born into eternal life on the morning of Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Bay Medical Care Facility. Elsie was born in Flint on April 1, 1923, the daughter of the late John and Mary (VanTol) VanMullekom. For many years, Elsie and her husband, Gus operated the Silver Hook Fish Market. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, scrabble, crocheting and most of all being surrounded by her loving family. Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Joanne and husband, Mike Engisch, Gene Turschak, Mary and husband, Randy DePrekel, Jack and wife, Nancy Turschak and Judy and husband, Mark Joles. Elsie was the loving grandmother of Jaime (Mari), Greta (Mark), Charlene, Lisa (Eric), Stacy (Kevin), Jeff, Missy (Aaron), Danielle, Ben (Sarah), Sara (Davy) and the great-grandmother of eighteen. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Audrey VanMullekom and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanie Turschak; husbands, August "Gus" Turschak and Fritz Krause; brothers, Don VanMullekom and Jim VanMullekom and her sister, Sr. Berdine "Villana" VanMullekom. 1. As I sat at your memorial Monday, I was remembering so many things. Doing inventory at Joann Fabrics with you, and Mary. Painting the kitchen green with everyone, and unfortunately, the insurance guys suit coat. Learning to hoe at the farm until Jack made me go into the house. I apparently couldn’t tell a weed from a plant. Sitting up talking with Gus until you came and told me to go to bed. Going to town with everyone, and wanting to call you something, but “Elsie” seemed disrespectful, and blurting out “Mert” instead, and so you became my Mert. I read Joannes comment. I also loved your smile, but your eyes were my favorite. Such kind eyes. Please give my love to Mom, Freddy, and Greg. Rest in peace my Mert. Love, Sue
