SAGINAW — Evelyn Ruth Schulz of Saginaw, died Dec. 8, 2016, at Bickford Home. She was 91. Born Oct. 11, 1925, in Saginaw, Evelyn was the daughter of Arthur and Beryl (Hamilton) Knuth, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 16, 1946, she married Paul Schulz. Starting life together in a small home with no running water, they forged a family through faith, love and hard work and were blessed with six children, 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Evelyn lived 50 years at the Taft Street home where she and Paul raised their children and cared for their neighbors. She was a fiercely proud matriarch who especially enjoyed hosting an annual Christmas celebration for her family. A Saginaw High School graduate, Evelyn worked as a stenographer for the C&O Railroad for more than 20 years. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church of Saginaw, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She later worked at St. John, and coordinated the church's senior citizen group, organizing outings and an annual Thanksgiving feast. Evelyn enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, almost always with Paul. She also played the mandolin and loved puzzles. Evelyn spent part of the year at her home in Free Soil, where she mowed her acreage atop a John Deere tractor well into her 80s. She was preceded in death by Paul, their infant daughter Donna, and their son Marvin. She was also preceded in death by sisters Carolyn Boshans and Marlene Horton, special friend Joe Iamurri and granddaughter Morgan Young. Evelyn is survived by son Elmer Schulz and daughters Lorna (Donald) Keaner and Linda LaFlair, all of Saginaw, daughter Beverly (Cary) Young of Bad Axe, daughter-in-law Cathy Schulz of Saginaw, sister Lorraine Nagel of Texas and brother Rocky (Barb) Knuth of Florida. She is survived by grandchildren Todd (Karen) Schulz, Marc (Shannon) Schulz, Rebecca (Kip) Hottman, Emily, Ellen and Sarah Schulz, Brent Keaner, Nancy (Samer Mansour) Keaner, Kurt (Fran) Keaner, Geoff (Laura) LaFlair, Karen LaFlair, Del (Jennifer) Young, and Megan (Andrew) Cousineau. Her 19 great-grandchildren are: Samuel, Madeline and Joshua Schulz; Tucker, Abby and Elliot Schulz; Isabella and Bodhi Hottman; Saif and Ryah Mansour; Jeremiah, Henry and Violette LaFlair; Van and John Weimer; Sydney Young; and A.J., Lucas and Benjamin Cousineau. Evelyn is also survived by dear friends whom she loved as family, Cathy and Dave Malkowski, of Free Soil, and their children, Chelsey, Clayton and Michaela. Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, with a funeral service immediately following at 11 a.m. Pastor Connie Sassanella will officiate.   1. I loved your mother, she was so wonderful to my mom. She told me at Bernies funeral that she was ready to go “home” . What wonderful memories you all have. We are all very blest to have such wonderful parents. I’m sorry we aren’t there today, we are, all 6 of us, sick with the crud that is going around. Love ya
