Fred Bernard Savage

May 16, 1930 ~ June 3, 2016
Fred Bernard Savage, 86, of Bay City, our devoted and friendly husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on the afternoon of Friday, June 3, 2016 at The Carriage House. Fred was born in Bay City on May 16, 1930, the son of the late Bernard and Marie (Timm) Savage. He graduated from St. Mary’s School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in July of 1948, serving four years during the Korean Conflict. Upon return home, Fred attended Western Michigan University on the G.I. Bill where he learned how to repair appliances. At a Catholic singles dance, he met the former Patricia Boyle. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on November 27, 1959 at St. Helen’s Church in Saginaw. Fred was the owner and operator of Stambaugh Appliance, retiring in 2010. Having visited all continents (including Antarctica), Fred and Pat’s love for traveling was unmatched. Fred’s favorite place to visit was Paris. Due to his love for history, when traveling Fred could be found frequenting museums and cemeteries. Fred was a talented cook and a skilled wood worker, restoring old furniture and building kits from scratch. Fred leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Pat of fifty-six years; children, Michael Savage and Paul (Jeanette) Savage; grandchildren, Ashley, Mariah, Nicole, and Justine; great-granddaughter, Adelai; siblings, Edward (Carol) Savage, Catherine (Hugh) Treanor, Mary (Peter) Micelli, Ann (Donald) Sanborn; in-laws, Robert Kalinowski and Barb Savage, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Fred was welcomed home to heaven by his brother, James Savage and sisters, Marjorie (Robert) Myslewski and Bernadette Kalinowski. Fred’s family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, June 6, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil for Fred at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Tuesday, June 7, 2016, Fred will be taken to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville, where visiting will continue from 10:00 AM until the time of his 11:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with cremation to follow. The entire family wishes to thank McLaren Hospice for their compassionate care. Memorial contributions may be directed to Save Brian’s House, St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, or McLaren Hospice. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
