Beloved uncle passed away August 2, 2009. Age 88 years. Howard William Kern was born August 15, 1920 in Saginaw to the late Andrew and Emma (Prueter) Kern. He married Josephine Campbell August 28, 1948. They shared 60 years together before her death November 7, 2008. Howard was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Saginaw and a lifelong member of the Germania Club. He volunteered his services as an electrician for Pit & Balcony Theater and also helped Meals on Wheels and the Saginaw Rescue Mission. Howard served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Force. He retired in 1978 as supervisor at the Saginaw Waste Water Treatment Plant after over 25 years of service. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends. Howard was predeceased by his sister, Mildred Postal. The family wishes to thank Dr. Miles Light and his staff, the staff at Tri-City Urology, especially Tiffany, and the staff at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper for their care and compassion. Funeral service will take place 11AM Friday August 7, 2009 at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home on S. Midland Rd. (M47). Rev. Paulette Cummings will officiate with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be observed at the cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, and on Friday one hour before the service.
