Irene Emily Bouckaert, 92, of Hampton Twp., our helpful and strong-willed mother and grandmother passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Irene was born in Bay City on March 20, 1925, the daughter of the late John and Victoria (Bunk) Perz. She attended St. Stanislaus School and later went on to meet Joseph Bouckaert. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on April 19, 1947. Prior to marriage, Irene ran the elevator at the Wenona Hotel and worked at Bay City Chevrolet. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and in her younger years, soap operas. Irene was a member of the American Legion, Reese Post #139 Ladies Auxiliary. She leaves to cherish her memory, her two children: Joanne (Darrell) Carvey and Craig (Doree) Bouckaert; son-in-law, Paul Groulx; grandchildren, Mindy Brandmair, Keith Carvey, Brian (Val) Groulx, and Rebecca (Chris) Block, along with many great-grandchildren; her brother, Sylvester “Sal” (Jean) Perz, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Irene was welcomed home to heaven by her husband, Joseph, who preceded her in 1988; daughter, Sharon Groulx, two brothers, and one sister. Private arrangements have been entrusted to Skorupski’s. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.     Your mom was one of the most beautiful women I know. She was my loving aunt, having me take my vacation at her home when I was little, buying me new shoes when I visited. I will never forget her warm smile and caring hugs. My prayers are with you two.
