Johanna Mary Frye, 79, of Bay City, our loving and generous wife, mother and Grandma Jo was born into eternal life on the morning of Saturday, August 22, 2015 at McLaren Bay Region after a lengthy illness. Johanna was born in Bay City on October 27, 1935, the only child of the late Peter and Helen (Kostus) Sylvester. She was a 1953 graduate of T.L. Handy High School and went on to work at Millar's. At work, she met a wonderful man by the name of Robert Frye, who was the love of her life. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on September 10, 1955 in St. Hedwig Church. Together, Robert and Johanna operated Frye's Studio and were very well respected for their excellent photography skills. Johanna later was the owner and operator of Seconds on Fourth and was able to keep current and advise her grandkids with all the latest trends as she operated her clothing store. Johanna also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, frequenting the casino, her Detroit Tigers, and most of all, spending time with her loving family. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and faithful husband of nearly sixty years, Robert. She was the loving mother of Susan Mieske and the most awesome Grandma Jo of Jason and wife, Jessica Strasser, Mesha Mieske and Maureen and husband, Joe Creal. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her great-grandchildren, Stella, Sadie, Austin and Braedon, and special cousin, Louis and wife, Mary Pelletier. Johanna's family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 9:00 AM until the time of her 10:00 AM Memorial Liturgy at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate and private inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family. Final arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Secret Garden Basket was purchased for the family of Johanna Marie Frye.
My family lived next door to Johanna and Bob for many, many years. My parents, Marge and Walt Beutel, have since passed away and I have not seen Johanna for some time, but I will always keep this fond memory of her. I was a young girl at the time and Mom and I went to Johanna’s for a quick visit. On Johanna’s kitchen table was the most beautiful, big, heaping apple pie I had ever seen. My mom never made heaping pies like that. Since that time, I have always made my pies just like Johanna’s apple pie. My condolences to Bob and Susie and your families.
