Kay F. Lentner

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013, after a valiant struggle with Dementia at the age of 78. Kay was born on February 23, 1935, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Martin F. and Bertha M. (Pumford) Holzhofer, Jr. She graduated from SS. Peter & Paul High School in 1953. On April 11, 1959, she married her beloved husband, Henry R. Lentner, who survives her.Kay worked as a legal secretary before her children were born. She was very active in the Home and School Association at Our Lady Help of Christians while they were in school. Kay then worked as the bookkeeper at St. Mary’s Cathedral. She was very proud to be a commissioned lay minister and chaplain, and worked in Pastoral Care at St. Mary’s of Michigan and St. Luke’s Hospital. She led many grief support groups as part of her ministry, as well as, tending to the sick and suffering. Kay was very involved with the Cathedral and the Diocese of Saginaw, and was a longtime member of the League of Catholic Women. Anyone who knew her loved her and remembered her sweet smile and caring ways. She was known and loved by many as “Kay Kay.” She dearly loved her grandchildren, and they loved their Kay Kay.Kay is survived by her husband, Henry, two daughters, and one son and their families: Mary and Matt Koczenasz, Ryan Phillips (Ashley DeSonia) and Jenna Koczenasz; Joan and Craig Cramer, Jamie, Christopher and Sarah Cramer; and Mike and Teresa Lentner, Amanda, Jessica and great-grandson, Aiden Lentner. Kay was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Martin D. Holzhofer, III; a grandson, Matthew Steven Cramer; her in-laws, Ray and Catherine Lentner; and brother-in-law, Dale Lentner.Kay’s family would like to give special thanks to June Armstrong for her love and caring support of Mom through the years. We could not have gotten through her illness without you. We would also like to thank Dr. Lioudmila Kinachtchouk for her years of loving care, Tom Conklin for his many visits and caring words, and Avalon/Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care the last few weeks of Mom’s life.Funeral Mass will take place at Noon on Monday, April 29, 2013 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Saginaw. Rev. Thomas J. McNamara will officiate with burial in St. Andrews Cemetery. Visitation will be at Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 Midland Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48638, from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013. Rev. John Johnson will lead a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. They may also visit at the Cathedral from 11 a.m. on Monday until the time of the Funeral Mass.
