Leonard Owsiak

Leonard J. Owsiak, 90, of Columbus, Georgia, formerly of Essexville, was born into eternal life on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Leonard was born in Detroit on October 21, 1923, the son of the late Michael and Selma (Kohan) Owsiak. He would go on to meet and marry the former Lillian Lafayette. Leonard worked as a pipefitter for many years before his retirement. A devout catholic, Leonard’s love of the Lord will always live on. Leonard was a proud veteran, serving our country during World War II. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, gardening, fishing and hunting. Leonard’s hard working, yet kind and gentle ways will live on for generations to come. Leonard leaves behind his son, John and wife, Sandra Owsiak of Georgia. He is also survived by many step-children, twenty-one grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; siblings, Steven, Chester, Henry and Stella, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Leonard was welcomed home to heaven by his wife, Lillian; daughter, Janet and sisters, Bernadine, Mary and Bernice. Leonard’s family will be present to receive visitors on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil for the Deceased at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Monday, March 24, 2014, Leonard will be taken to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 1503 Kosciuszko Ave., Bay City, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until the time of his 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Private interment will take place in Floral Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.

  2. We have many fond memories of picketing with Leonard outside the Saginaw Abortion Clinics. He was a faithful warrior in the battle for the unborn. His loving and gentle spirit never wavered even when taunted and once spit upon by pro-abortion advocates. We were blessed to know him. Cal & Trish Zastrow

  3. after my coming back to the Catholic faith I met Leonard for the first time going into Mass. He gave me a rosary. I told him of my conversion. He gave me some advice that is true to this day. From early on in my coming back to the faith I believe that I have 2 guardian angels and one I named Leonard because of this man.
