Lynwood "Lyn" Larson

February 11, 1940 ~ April 12, 2014
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Lynwood P. Larson. Lyn, to most, was born to Arvid and Melinda "Pat" (Riessen) Larson in Big Rapids, Michigan on February 11, 1940.
Although Lyn was a gifted drummer, who had mighty dreams of becoming a professional drummer in a famous band, reality set in and he established roots in the hospitality industry. He stayed within the hospitality industry for 55+ years.
His early years were spent throughout Michigan, managing various hotels before settling in Gaylord at the Holiday Inn in 1970. In 1977, Lyn and Vicki purchased what became known as The Longhorn Saloon. After 35 years, the doors closed, but not without many good times and memories by all.
Lyn was once overheard saying, "I believe in working hard, keeping a clean house, creating original (and probably non-duplicatable!) recipes, loving your family and friends, and above all, the occasional indulgence of J&B!" Lyn was the loving father of Meredith and husband, Gene Schaefer of Essexville. He was the loving grandpa of Spencer and Trevour. In addition to his parents, Lyn was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle; former wife, Vicki and infant daughter, Michele.
Private arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com

Lyn,
Sooooo many happy memories. The first time I walked into the Longhorn Saloon I
claimed “dibs” on one of the famous “saddles.”
Shooting pool with “Lyn’s Girls”, It was the only bar Mom would go to on New Years Eve. Dancing and singing karaoke with Marty. Remember when us gals would sing,
“EARL” by the Dixie Chicks ? And Earl Palmer would lay on the floor and play dead
while we pretended to “wrap him up in a tarp.”
MEREDITH (AND FAMILY) I am sure you know how much we all loved your Dad (and
Mom) But, I just have to say, Lyn was the BEST – THE VERY BEST, and you remember
that he (and Mom) are watching over you and everyone you love. I love you, and if I can EVER help in any way, please let me know.
Lynwood, please save me a seat up at the bar. (you notice I said UP) ;>)
Miss you, Love you, Chrissy
