Marilyn Schmidt

Marilyn "Joyce" Schmidt, 83, of Bay City, our compassionate, humorous, strong, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on the morning of Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at The Carriage House. Joyce was born on August 16, 1933 in Bay City to the late Orville and Mary (Shiel) Mead. She graduated from Central High School and went on to marry the love of her life, Gerald "Jerry" Schmidt. Joyce and Jerry enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage. She was known for her love of arts and crafts and decorating, especially during the holiday season. Joyce will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Jerry; children, Becky (Dave) Matthews and Delmar Schmidt; grandchildren, Aaron Schaefer and Molly (Richard) Mielens; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Nathaniel Schaefer; brother, Lloyd Mead; sister-in-law, Carol Callahan, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, Joyce was welcomed home to heaven by her loving daughter, Lynne Schaefer; brothers, Kenneth, Brian, and Bobby Mead; sisters, Alice Anderson and June Steinhoff and in-laws, Delmar and Bertha Schmidt. Joyce's family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of her 11:00 AM Memorial Ceremony at Messiah Lutheran Church, 501 S. Catherine St., Bay City. Rev. Andreas Teich will officiate with private interment to follow. Memorial contributions may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp.
