Marjorie Jane (Deford) VanOchten, 90, of Essexville, passed away Sunday September, 28, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.
Marjorie was born in Bay City on May 22, 1924, the daughter of the late Louis and Florence (Chapman) Deford. She was united in marriage on August 24, 1940 to Raymond VanOchten. Raymond passed away on December 26, 1994. Marjorie retired from General Motors and also worked at Prestolite for many years. She loved playing penny poker, euchre, bingo and going to the casinos. Her kind and considerate ways will live on in the hearts of her family forever.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Garry (Barb) VanOchten of Frankenmuth, Robert (Sherry) VanOchten of Tower Lakes, Illinois, Susan VanOchten (Steve Huggard) and Allen (Darleen) VanOchten, both of Bay City; grandchildren, Garry Jr. (Mary Beth) VanOchten, Brian VanOchten, Jeff VanOchten (Karren Warren), Scott Huggard (Cindy Ouellette), Christel VanOchten (Susan Redfern), Stephany VanOchten and Kati Sue VanOchten; great-granchildren, Christina Beebe, Allison VanOchten, Christopher Wozniak, Cody Huggard, Sarah Huggard, Maddison Gregory and Destany Archey. Also surviving are her brothers, David Deford (Ilene Didyk), Earl Deford, Donald (Sally) Deford; Marjorie’s dear friend and sister-in-law, Marie VanOchten, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jody VanOchten; great-grandson, Patrick Daneluk; brothers, Walter and Robert Deford and her sisters, Edith Ahler, Evelyn Fowler and Francis Erody.
Marjorie’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil for the Deceased at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Saturday, October 4, 2014, Marjorie will be taken to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist), 614 Pine St., Essexville, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until her 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with private interment to be held in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
