Mark Vermeesch

On Thursday afternoon, January 30, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region, I lost my hero! Mark F. Vermeesch, 53, was our hard-working, devoted, loyal and sensible husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was born into eternal life at that time, surrounded by his family and the most devoted and caring nurses and medical staff. I want to thank all of them who shared such compassion and guidance and helped our family to accept his journey. Mark was born in Bay City on June 4, 1960, the son of the late Darrell and Clara (Solinski) Vermeesch. He was a graduate of Garber High School, Class of 1978. While at Garber, Mark met Wendy Crosby. They dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on September 19, 1981. Their marriage was blessed with five children and countless memories. A man with great mechanical skills, Mark was able to fix just about anything. He was a dedicated mechanic and garage foreman for both Hirschfields & Sons/Omni Source (1978-2001) and Pyramid Paving Co. (2001-2014), of which he was a member of the Michigan Conference of Teamsters, Local 406. Mark loved life, and loved his family even more. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, four wheeling, working on his Jeep and spending time up north at his cabin on Ambrose Lake. Mark leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Wendy. He was the unconditional loving father of Brandon Vermeesch, Santana and husband, Matt Hutchinson, Carla and husband, Paul Jezak, Joshua Vermeesch and Elijah Vermeesch. Mark absolutely loved his two grandchildren, Kailey Vermeesch and Jace Hutchinson. Also surviving are his siblings, Mike and wife, Linda Vermeesch, Debbie Vermeesch, Annie and husband, Loren VanSumeren and Stephen Vermeesch; in-laws, Don and wife, Kathy Crosby, Carol Robinson and friend, Howard Wheelock, David Crosby, Laura and husband, Terry Tacey, Patti and husband, Joe Noonan, Mary Kay and husband, Dave Stansberry, Doug Crosby, Joanie Crosby, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Mark was welcomed home to heaven by his sister, Pamela Vermeesch; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Jeannette Crosby; brothers-in-law, Dale and Dennis Crosby and sisters-in-law, Barbara Joan Crosby and Lee Crosby. Mark you will be missed every day, but held in our hearts and memories forever! See you later! Mark’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil for the Deceased at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. 5. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with the Vermeesch family, the Crosby family and all who were blessed to have Mark in their lives for such a short, short time. My Uncle Mark gave the BIGGEST and BEST hugs and the warmest “hey, how are ya?” One of my fondest memories that I will have forever of Uncle Mark, is that he loved his breakfasts and even more than eating them, he loved to cook them for everyone. I’m sure that his first Sunday morning in heaven, he is keeping an eye on the bacon and sausage and cooking breakfast for the entire heaven. I love you Uncle Mark. I will miss you.
