Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister Mary Helen Hartman left our presence on Sunday September 26, 2010. Mary Helen Reppuhn was born October 10, 1916 in Silverwood, Michigan to the late David and Amalia (Schimpf) Reppuhn. She married Elmer Hartman June 29, 1935. He passed away June 20, 1994. She married Charles Rogel, Sr. September 3, 2003. He passed away December 10, 2006. Mary and Elmer owned Hartman’s Grocery Store on Holland Ave. for many years. Mary was a 14-year employee of J.C. Penney and then worked four years for Federal Department Store. She was of the Lutheran faith. Mary was a friend to all. She loved to cook, bake, garden, play cards, and especially watch and feed birds. We know that all she did, she did out of love for family and friends. She has left to mourn her passing a daughter, Carol (Howard) Beck and son, Elmer (Jeanne) Hartman. She had four grandchildren, Terry Beck, Russell (Lorie) Beck, Robin (Keith) Obendorfer, and Kirk Hartman; four great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Five sisters and one brother will miss her companionship and the many years they shared together, Kate (Robert) Swoverland, Johanna (Charles) Joyner, Martha (Milton) Boese, Lilian (Fred) Haenlein, Donna McClymont, and Richard Reppuhn. She also leaves a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frederick (Florence) Hartman. Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Helena DuPuis; three brothers, David, Gottfried, and Edwin Reppuhn; and a foster brother Archie Bazhenow. The family would like to thank Dr. Louis Byrne for all his years of care, a special neighbor, Marge Griebel who always showed her kindness and concern, and the staff at Shattuck Manor and Hospice of Hope for their loving care. Funeral service will take place 11AM Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Rd. (M47). Pastor Rob Troutman will officiate with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-9 PM and on Thursday one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial offering to Crosspoint Chapel. “Be at peace now, your job is done. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16 To send flowers or a remembrance gift to the family of Mary Hartman, please visit our Tribute Store.
