Maverick Stoffel

Maverick Duke Stoffel passed gently in the arms of his parents at Duke University Hospital, Durham NC, on Dec. 22, 2013. He was born with Smith Lemli Opitz Syndrome and struggled courageously for seventeen days. During his brief visit on earth, Maverick enjoyed being read to, cuddling with his toys, and being comforted by his family. Maverick was the son of Chris and Whitney Stoffel of Hope Mills, NC. He is survived by his sisters, McKenzie and Morgan; his Oma and Opa, Hubert and Susan Stoffel of Essexville, MI, and his Nana and Papa, Ken and Lynn Sherman of Sanford, MI; as well as his aunts and uncle; Sabine Stoffel, Mia and Doug Walker, Megan Sherman; and cousins Kendall and Dylan Walker. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Bay City, MI. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 AM; the service will begin at 11:00 AM. Contributions in Maverick's memory can be made to the Smith Lemli Opitz Foundation at smithlemliopitz.org, or the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc., at donate.rmhc.org. Local arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp.
