Merle Marie Webb, 101, formerly of Bay City and Cadillac, Michigan passed away on the evening of Friday, January 9, 2015 at her home in Bradenton, FL. Merle was born in Bay City, Michigan on November 18, 1913, the daughter of the late Edward Joseph "EJ" and Philamone (Bengel) Whyte. She graduated from Michigan State University as a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority in the class of 1936 with a bachelor's degree in Dietetics and Chemistry. Following her graduation, Merle was accepted at the only Brewing Technology School in the United States in New York City and completed the program as the first female brewery chemist in the US. She used her education to build and run the quality control lab at the Frankenmuth Brewery in Frankenmuth, Michigan. In 1937 Merle was united in marriage to Neil Edwin Webb. The newlyweds lived in Holland and Grand Rapids, Michigan and Louisville, Kentucky before moving to Cadillac, Michigan where they built a business of their own. During their time there Merle was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, AAUW, Cadillac Country Club, Hospital Guild and Cadillac Philharmonic. Her kind and loving ways will live on in the hearts of her family and friends for generations to come. Merle leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and loving daughter, Dolores "Dee" and husband Steven Frisbie. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Steven and wife Lynette Hish-Frisbie, and James "Ted" and wife Amber Frisbie. Merle is also survived by her great grandchildren, Neil "Frankie" and Julien Hish-Frisbie, and Mason and MacKinnon "Bella" Frisbie. In addition to her parents, Merle was predeceased by her husband Neil; son, Neil Edward "Ted" and her siblings, Edward "EJ", Isabel, Erma and Dolores. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Bay City, Michigan. Private arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Memorial contributions in memory of Merle may be directed to Tidewell Hospice (5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238), or the International Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia Foundation (IWMF 3932 D Swift Rd, Sarasota, FL 34231).
