Richard James “Dick” Carmichael, 69, of Munger, Michigan. After a long, courageous and hard fought battle with lung cancer, our kind, funny, loving, and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Saturday, November 12, 2016 at McLaren Bay Region. Dick was born in Bay City, Michigan on March 7, 1947, to the late Charles and Anna (Niedzielski) Carmichael. He graduated from Bay City Central in 1965 and went on to the Army to serve his country through two tours in the Vietnam War. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cynthia (Badour). They were united in marriage on November 1, 1986. Dick worked at General Motors-Saginaw Division for 41 years. He was a member of the AmVets Post 22, an avid bowler, fisherman, and was exceptionally talented at crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Dick was affectionately known by his friends as "Zink". He managed and coached the “I’m hip, dig it” softball team for many years during the 70’s and 80’s. Dick had many achievements but considered his two daughters to be his greatest achievement. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Cyndi; daughters, Kara (Joe) Switala of Auburn, Michigan and Tina (Alan) Stepanek of Kathleen, Georgia; grandchildren, Tyler Stepanek of Atlanta, Georgia, Ashley and Brooke Stepanek of Kathleen, Georgia, Jett and Melanie Switala of Auburn, Michigan; sisters, Charlotte Buda of Bay City, Michigan and Patricia Fitzmaurice of Phoenix, Arizona; special friend of the family, Michael Hidalgo of Bay City, Michigan, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, Dick was welcomed home to heaven by his sister, Margaret Gies; brothers-in-law, John Gies and Jim Fitzmaurice; niece, Colleen Wilson, and in-laws, Donald Badour and Dorothy (Badour) Daniels. “If there ever comes a day where we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever.” Dick’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil for Dick at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Wednesday, November 16, 2016, Dick will be taken to Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish (St. Stanislaus Kostka Church), 1503 Kosciuszko Ave., Bay City, where visiting will continue from 10:00 AM until the time of his 11:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Richard Filary will officiate with Military Funeral Honors to follow. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Doctors and nurses of McLaren Bay Region CCU, Dr. Abramson, Dr. Littles, and Dr. Kerr for their care and support.
