Richard William McLaren, 94, of Akron, our hard-working and devoted husband and father passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center in Saginaw. Richard was born in Bay City on November 20, 1924, the sonĀ of the late William and Mary (Collon) McLaren. He graduated from Unionville High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. When he was younger, he met the neighbor girl, the former Janice Elaine Thompson. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on July 16, 1966. Richard retired from General Motors – Buick Motor Division in Flint, where he worked from 1950-1991. He was a faithful member of Wisner United Methodist Church, and enjoyed gardening and hunting in his younger years, along with coin and stamp collecting. Richard leaves to carry on his legacy, his wife, Janice McLaren and their children: Charles McLaren and Keith McLaren; in-laws, Dennis (Chela) Thompson and Edna (Donald) Koepf; Goddaughter, Jean Glann, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was welcomed home to heaven by his sister, Dorothy McLaren and brother, Kenneth McLaren. Richard’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. His funeral and interment in Wisner Twp. Cemetery will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
