I remember when I went to Hawaii your dad told me to enjoy my flight because it was going to be as close to Heaven as I’d ever get… now he’s there with your mom, Ernie and Mary Lou having a big reunion.. Robert Leo VanTol, 90, of Hampton Twp., was born into eternal life on the afternoon of Friday, January 16, 2015 at McLaren Bay Region. Bob was born in Bay City on January 4, 1925, the son of the late Louis and Mary (Van Der Wielen) VanTol. He was united in marriage to the former Caulline Helen Dietlein on August 7, 1948. Sadly, Caulline preceded Bob in death in 1991. Before beginning his lifelong career of farming, Bob worked at the Defoe Shipyard. He had a great love for hunting, fishing, and will forever be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. Bob leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Genevive "Jennie" and husband, David Poole of Bay City; honorary granddaughter, Amanda Dietlein; sister, Alberta "Honey" Samyn and in-laws, Lucille VanTol, Louie Kohn and Loyal Syring. Bob is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, Bob was welcomed home to heaven by his two children, Ernest and Mary Lou VanTol; siblings, Grace and husband, Karl Dummeldinger , Floyd VanTol, Alice and husband, Michael Szeszulski, Ruth Kohn, Beatrice "Betty" Syring, Viola Tardiff and Joseph VanTol. Bob's family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Vigil for the Deceased at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. On Wednesday, January 21, 2015, Bob will be taken to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist), 614 Pine St., Essexville, where visiting will continue from 9:00 AM until the time of his 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be directed to the wishes of the family.
