Roy Dale Sanford, 83, of Hampton Twp., our helpful, loving, strong, supportive and extraordinary father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, December 11, 2015 at his home. Roy was born in Dryden on September 17, 1932, the son of the late Arthur and Muriel (Bacon) Sanford. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Arlene King on June 21, 1955, and together they shared over fifty-one years of marriage prior to Arlene preceding Roy in death. During the Korean Conflict, Roy was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. He would go on to become a talented and dedicated Bricklayer for over fifty years and belonged to BAC Local 7 and Laborers Local 1098. In his spare time, Roy enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially near his beloved property in West Branch, near Clear Lake. He also enjoyed time spent on the Saginaw Bay, along with trips to Canada, Wyoming, and Tennessee. Sports of all sorts was a true passion of Roy's. When not following all of the teams, Roy could be found at the bowling alley in his younger years, at the casino searching for the lucky slot machine, or playing cards (especially Euchre and Smear). His love for his family and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Bethany Courier and her husband, Keith and Lisa Socia and her husband, Mike Sr. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Adam and wife, Amanda Courier, Ryan and wife, Kayla Courier, Trista and husband, Bobby Wind, Alicia and husband, Josh Neitzel, Mike Socia, Jr., and his fiancé, Destinee Alvarez; great-grandchildren, Devin and Mason, Maddie, Jordynn, Brayden and Destike, and one on the way; sister, Mary Jane Baumgart; brother-in-law, Albert Dreyer; sister-in-law, Margaret Sanford; special niece and nephew, Melissa Hartwig and Marc Corbat, along with many nieces, nephews, and special friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, Roy was welcomed home to heaven by an infant son; brothers, Clyde, Robert, Donald, and John; sisters, Edith, Vera, Hazel, Ruth, two brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law. Roy's family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 10:00 AM until the time of his 1:00 PM Memorial Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Fresenius Dialysis, Dr. S. Dandamudi, Dr. J. Prasad, along with Jennifer, Melissa, and the entire Heartland Hospice team for their compassionate care. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.

  1. Those we hold most dear never truly leave us – they live on… in the kindnesses they’ve shown, the comforts that they’ve shared, and the love they brought into our lives. May God’s precious gift of memories, and His promise of Paradise, help to bring you peace, comfort, and even joy at this most difficult time! Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers! Kimmy

  2. Uncle Roy and Arlene were special in so many ways. As I began my freshman year in college in 1972 they sent me money several times. It was always in the nick of time for the many demands that college brings financially. I have held this as one of the warmest memories of my life. They had their own family and responsibilities….and yet they sent me help when ever they could. Uncle Roy was always helping as well as being there whatever the need would be. He will be missed by so many. All my love to you all – Sue
