Passed away Friday, April 5, 2013. Age 87 years. Roy Eugene Lewis was born July 22, 1925 in Saginaw to Albert and Gladys (Hoxie) Lewis. He married Welma Becker on June 29, 1946. She survives him. Roy was a 1943 graduate of Saginaw High School, and worked for Michigan Bell as a PBX installer for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church in downtown Saginaw for 43 years (now known as Beacon of Hope Church in SaginawTownship) and later became a member of Hopevale Church. Roy was an avid HAM radio operator for many years and was known as K8MOY. After retirement he enjoyed carving figurines and turning lamps and bowls on his Shopsmith. He also enjoyed many years of going to amateur auto racing in the Saginaw area, and NASCAR races at Michigan International Speedway. He never missed a televised NASCAR race, and also enjoyed Tiger baseball and Detroit Red Wings games. Surviving besides his wife he leaves three sons and their wives; Jim (Robin) Lewis, Gary (Dorothy) Lewis, Paul (Susan) Lewis, his grandchildren; Amy (Brian) Hoerauf, Lisa (Mark) Simon, Michelle (Jason) Bringer, April (Chad) Andrews, Betsy (Rob) Krueger, and Cameron Lewis, 14 great grand children, his brothers and sisters and their spouses; (late Maxine) Arthur Watt, (late Jean) Lans Owen, Donald (Mary Ann) Lewis, Robert (Charlotte) Lewis, Gordon (Carol) Lewis, Nancy (Jack) Sheets, (late Albert) Karen Lewis, and Will (Marsha) Lewis. Roy was also predeceased by his granddaughter Autumn Lewis.Funeral and committal service will take place 1PM Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Rd. (S-M47). Pastor Dan Davis will officiate. Friends are welcome to gather with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 3PM to 8PM, on Monday from 3PM to 8PM, and on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial offerings be directed to Hopevale Church, or the Beacon of Hope Church.
