Sandra Louise VanSumeren

sandra vansumeren
Sandra Louise (Roach) VanSumeren, 55, of Essexville, our giving, quick-witted, and involved mother, Grammy, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend made her last witty/sarcastic comment on the morning of Monday, November 7, 2016 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Throughout her journey, Sandy had a wonderful support group and team with her. Sandy/Louie was born the sixth of seven children to Wayne and Theresa (McCoy) Roach on October 9, 1961. Sandy retired from Bush Elementary School, where she was a lunch lady and loved by all the little ones. She later worked for Meijer's, where she could be seen running around with her clipboard barking orders. Sandy took a medical retirement and deeply missed her Meijer's family, who became her second family. She enjoyed spending time up north, had an awesome sense of humor, and always seemed to meet people where they were at in life. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish. Her generous and thoughtful ways will live on for generations to come. Sandy leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters, Nicole (Jeremy) Porath and Melissa (Nathan) Cinciala. She was the most loving Grammy of Kaydince, Mason, Adalyn, and Remington, who were her pride and joy. Louie's memory will live on in the hearts of her parents, Theresa and Cy Ratajczak, and siblings, Ann (Fred) Orr, Cindy Divo-Drzewicki, Sherry Wedge, Wayne (JoAnne) Roach, Irene (Floyd) Barber, Tim (Donna) Roach, along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends, especially Ann Mead and Debbie Lesniak. Louie was welcomed home to heaven by her father, Wayne Roach. Sandy's family will be present to receive visitors on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with 6:30 PM Cocktail Hour at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Visiting will continue on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 9:00 AM until the time of her 10:00 AM Tribute Ceremony at Skorupski's. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with a Celebration of Life Reception to follow in The Wesley Room. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. R. Dandamudi, Dr. S. Ahmad, Dr. Littles, Dr. Abramson, McLaren Bay Region, Karmanos, Jeppeson Radiation, Dr. Kotecha and Dennis at Mid-Michigan Gamma Knife, and McLaren Hospice for their wonderful, family-like treatment. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
