Staff Sgt. John L. Parker II, 36, of Essexville, our cherished, devoted and honorable father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend went home to be with the Lord in the early morning of hours of Monday, January 6, 2014 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland with his loving mother and family by his side. John was born in Bay City on December 17, 1977, the son of John L. and Marchelle "Marci" (Snyder) Parker. John was a graduate of Garber High School and would go on to proudly serve our country in the U.S. Army. Having served four deployments overseas, he was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal (two awards), Army Good Conduct Medal (two awards), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with two campaign stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (with campaign star), Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (three awards), N.A.T.O. Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Expert Infantry Badge. John was a beautiful, loving and caring person. He never gave up and always remained strong minded. Always willing to help others, his memory will live on for generations to come. Left to miss him forever are his three beautiful children, John III, Myah and Shyanne; father and mother, John L. and Marchelle "Marci" Parker; siblings, Jennifer (Jesse Wolcott) Parker, Amy (Marcellus Dawkins) Nicholson and Curtis (Shelly Scherwin) Parker, along with his best friend, Dwight Murry. He was a loving uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. John was welcomed home to heaven by his wife, the former Melissa Hodgins; paternal grandparents, Dorothy Gamble and James Brown; maternal grandparents, Wilfred and Phoebe Snyder and uncle, Carey Griffin. John's family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 10:00 AM until his 11:00 AM Funeral Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Pastor John H. Davis of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church will officiate with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.   1. John, you were such a tough kid growing up. One of the best athletes I ever knew in since we were young. You would hit the ball a mile if you nailed it in the sweet spot and run over anyone that got in your way. I knew it was tough growing up but it seemed as if you got yournlife together after high school. I am truely sorry for the Parker family. I hope that the journey for John is great and when I met you again one day….we will haveto get a pick up game together and watch you hit those balls as far as you can.

  4. I remember when I first met you, you was just about 10 years old and you was the sweetest most kind little boy anyone could have. My kids just loved you. As they grew up they always asked about how you was doing. And my son when you spent some time with him and Brad he thought you was just so cool.
