Thomas Allen MacFarlane

Thomas Allen MacFarlane, age 67, of Fairgrove, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, December 9, 2017 with his family by his side; after an eight-month battle with cancer. Tom was born in Bay City, Michigan on January 22, 1950 to the late Stanley and Margaret (Bannister) MacFarlane. He was a 1968 graduate of Akron Fairgrove High School. He served in the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971. On July 1, 1972, Tom married Georgia Trischler of Unionville. Tom was a long-time member of the Unionville Gateway Gun Club, where he spent many evenings with his friends and enjoying his interest in guns and shooting. He started a trucking and excavating company in 1976. Tom encouraged his children to become a part of the family business. He was a big supporter of his grandchildren in all they did, including sports, hunting, and learning the family business. He loved having them around and teaching them tricks of the trade. Tom’s favorite hobby was riding his Harley. He enjoyed motorcycle trips with his wife and nephew, Scott Jacoby, and friend Deb Strandberg. Tom loved long trips across the country. Tom leaves behind, the love of his life, Georgia, and their four children, Wade MacFarlane (Deb Goslin), Tracy (David) Freed, Jed MacFarlane, Nate MacFarlane, and another they embraced as their own, Shannon Dominowski; grandchildren, Casey and Bryce MacFarlane, Kyle Richard, Charlie Freed, Molly (Josh) Freedman, Matthew Freed, Jaxon Newcomb; great-grandchildren, Daisy and Norah Freedman; sister, Carol Jacoby; sister-in-law, Gloria MacFarlane; mother-in-law, Leona Lacours; many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, James MacFarlane and brother-in-law, Richard Jacoby. After Tom found out he had terminal cancer, he decided to get his affairs in order. He set out to accomplish projects at home that needed doing. Tom tried to make their home as complete and carefree as he possibly could for his wife. He kept himself as busy as he was able through the summer working around their home and yard. Tom did not lose heart or get discouraged, because Tom believed he was at peace with God. He stayed strong and did his very best right up to the end. Tom loved his wife, children, grandchildren, gloves, sunglasses, flashlights, jack knives, Harley motorcycles, tools, and his Challenger. He had a full life and had few regrets. He will be greatly missed by those who depended on him for his help and wisdom. Tom’s family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and again on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 10:00 AM until Tom’s 11:00 AM Farewell Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Interment will follow in Wisner Twp. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family or Ministry of the Word.
