Virginia Marie Martin

Virginia Marie Martin, 84, of Bay City, our lively, loving, and devoted mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at McLaren Bay Region. Virginia was born in Bay County on June 26, 1931, the daughter of the late Erick and Mildred (Ansel) Dutcher. While attending Garfield High School, she met Selwyn "Ziggy" Martin. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage. Sadly, Ziggy preceded Virginia in death in September of 1985. Throughout life, Virginia was known for her dedication and love for her family. She worked for twenty years as a talented cook at McLaren Bay Region, a passion that carried over in to the home, where every meal never went without desert. Virginia enjoyed gardening, crafts, frequenting garage sales, and being a loving mother and grandmother. Her memory will live on for generations to come. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sue Schatzer, Dean and wife, Debbie Martin, Marlene Hendricks, and Becky and husband, Richard "Buzz" Allen. She was the devoted grandmother to seven, and a great, and great-great grandma to many. Virginia's Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 21, 2015 in the chapel of Floral Gardens Cemetery, 2215 Cass Ave. Rd., Bay City. Final arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.

  1. Grandma Martin, was a very loving and caring person that I have ever meet. She made sure that you had what ever you may need even if it was the last bit of money she had. She will be missed dearly by so many. Her family is in my thoughts and prayers. Havean just gained other angel. Love and miss you grandma Martin.

  2. I met Virginia at Auburn Heights Senior Care. She was my mom, Dee first friend there. She always wanted to come home with me and help me with what ever I had going on at the moment. She really enjoyed making the chocolate chip truffles one afternoon with all of us. Virginia always wanted me to sit with her and loved the racoon in the outhouse story. She said my stories from the cabin were funny. I never went by her with giving her a hug, a squeeze, or a rub on her shoulder. Your mom was a wonderful person and I will miss her alot. I’ll keep you all in my prayers.

  3. My Gramma was the best Gramma ever.. She always made the best Christmas cookies! We always used to wake up at 5 am to go yard selling, and we would usually come back with the strangest things but Gramma had to have it.. It’s hard with her not being here, but she’s rested and not hurting anymore.. We will all love and miss her very much.. This isn’t a goodbye, just a simple see ya later!
