September 3, 1954 - May 1, 2021
Allan Thomas Nowicki, 66, Bay City, Michigan, our loving, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, May 1, 2021, following a brief, but hard-fought battle with Glioblastoma. Al was born in Bay City on September 3, 1954, the son of the late Thomas and Lorraine (Gruszynski) Nowicki. He was a 1972 graduate of All Saints High School in Bay City. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Accounting after high school, but decided an indoor desk job just wasn’t for him; he needed to be outside. He began working at Bay Landscaping in October 1972 until he retired in November of 2018. It was a family affair for many years, with his dad also working part-time at Bay Landscaping for 30+ years. Al was a model foreman, mentor, and superb craftsman who was much loved by his Bay Landscaping family. Al enjoyed anything to do with nature. He was an avid camper who would often say he did “real” camping in a tent, rather than RVs with a/c and satellite dishes. He enjoyed the calm and the beauty of walks in the woods, looking at birds, and taking in the beauty of all the flowers and the foliage. He was a remarkable photographer of all things nature and his many walks in the woods included a camera around his neck. He was a kid at heart and always looked forward to any family gatherings where you’d find him more often playing with his nieces and nephews, whether it was toys on the floor, whiffle ball in the backyard, or even riding a 60-year old John Deere kids tractor in the driveway, he loved life. He was an avid photographer who you’d find more often behind the lens of the camera than in front of it. At home, he enjoyed sitting in the backyard, listening to the water cascading in the fountain, watching the birds and occasional squirrels and cats drink from the fountain and the birdbaths. He took pride in his yard and the beauty of the flower-filled landscape; neighborhood walkers often stopped to comment on how pretty it was. He liked exploring his family’s history and genealogy, tracing it back several generations. His next hobby was going to be drawing, but his illness prevented that next talent from being explored. Al will be missed by his family and friends. Left to carry on his memory are his brothers, Daniel of Bay City, Thomas of Okemos, Donald (Pamela) of Livonia, and sister, Susan of Bay city. In addition, he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews including Jennifer (Michael) Oginsky and children Jacob and Andrew; Kyle (Lakeisha) Nowicki and daughter Keira; Allison (Austin) Johnston and children Elijah, Eden, and Emma; Dustin (Karly) Vance and son Ivan; Thomas Nowicki; Zachary (Yumi) Nowicki; Katie Nowicki and daughter Bella; and Tyler Nowicki. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Thomas and Lorraine (Gruszynski) Nowicki, and sister-in-law, Kathy Nowicki. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of 3-East at McLaren Bay Region, especially Heather, Ashley, and Karen, for their kindness and compassion; as well as the staff and volunteers at the Toni & Trish House for their thoughtfulness and comforting care. Al’s family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home, 821 N Pine Rd, between Ridge & Center. Rite of committal to follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Toni & Trish House. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
