Betty Jean Kochalka, 89, of Vassar, our loving kind, and thoughtful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, was born into eternal life on Monday, June 14, 2021 in Saginaw. Betty was born in Saginaw on April 26, 1932, the daughter of the late Virgil and Elizabeth (Lytle) Boivin. On April 16, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to William Lewis, who preceded her in death on May 8, 1963. On February 29, 1964, Betty was united in marriage to Donald Kochalka; he preceded her in death on May 5, 1999. Together, Don and Betty owned and operated State Town and Country Realty. Betty was a faithful parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church and enjoyed playing cards with her family. She was an avid bowler, and was even inducted into the bowling hall of fame. In her younger years, Betty enjoyed BINGO, frequenting the casino, and tending to her garden. A beautiful and gentle soul, Betty’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends for generations to come. Betty leaves to carry on her legacy, her children: Linda (Daniel) Fowler, Ronald Lewis, Connie (John) Huizar, Diane (Thomas) Kanyok, Kim (Timothy) Kern, and her beloved grandchildren: Bill (Terra) Lewis, Kristina Juarez, Dan (Becky) Fowler, Donald (Becky) Fowler, Heather (Damon) Green, Ronald Lewis, Jr., Billi Jo Roy, Amanda (Tyler) Bailey, Tami (Mark) Portelli, Thomas (Tomoko) Kanyok, Danielle (Kevin) Corbeil, and Hayley Kern (David Katz). She is also survived by many great-grandchildren; her beloved dog, Lanie, and beloved granddog, Griz. In addition to her parents and husbands, Betty was preceded in death by her son, William T. Lewis; sister, Shirley Fuller; and brother, Glen Boivin. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 18, 2021 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, 334 Division St., Vassar. Fr. Christian Tabares will officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in Watertown Twp. Cemetery. Betty’s family will be present to receive visitors at church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1550 Midland Rd., between State & Gratiot. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or American Kidney Fund.
