Ernest "Bapa" Jerry Irwin
January 11, 1935 - January 22, 2022
Ernest Jerry Irwin, "Bapa", 87, of Saginaw, our loving, caring, and resourceful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, went to be with the Lord our savior on the morning of Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Brian's House in Hampton Township. Jerry was born in Saginaw on January 11, 1935, the son of the late Ernest E. and Beatrice (Saxton) Irwin. He attended Bay City Central High School and went on to work on the family farm. Jerry was a lifelong farmer, farming sugar beets, wheat, and soybeans until his retirement in 1997. He met the former Carol M. Haas in Indiantown; they fell in love and were united in marriage on October 3, 1954. Sadly, she preceded him in death on November 29, 2004. Jerry was baptized at Munger Presbyterian Church on June 9, 1935. He was a current and active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Saginaw. Jerry was a dedicated farmer, avid deer hunter, and his pride and joy was making wooden crafts, rocking horses, and toys he sold at Johnson's Pumpkin Farm for many years. He loved traveling with his wife Carol and friends, and being up north at the deer cabin, hunting and having campfires. He was also a diehard Detroit Tigers fan. Most of all he loved his wife and family, and you could always find him sitting along the outside of the circle with that quiet little smile of his. Jerry leaves to carry on his legacy his children, Monica (Mark) Miller, Joni (Michael) Truemner, Scott (Connie) Irwin, Pamela (Timothy) Lynch, and Todd (Mindy) Irwin; 15 grandchildren, Samantha Miller, Shanna (Joe) Rath, Kaylin Miller (Andy VanWert), Stacy (Eric) Rupprecht, Ryan (Wendi) Truemner, Aaron (Kathie) Truemner, Patty Irwin, Eric (Amy) Irwin, Nicole (Dave) McCulloch, Troy (Michelle) Lynch, Jennesa (Greg) Kreiner, Tyler Lynch, Andrew Irwin, Jacob Irwin, and Kathlyn Irwin; 24 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Eleanor and Isla Rath, Thaden Turnbull, Isaac, Eli, Adam and Jonah Rupprecht, Hudson Truemner, Cohen Truemner, Kasia, Genevieve and Miranda Pogoreski, Cameron, Alex and Elle McCulloch, Grady, Bennett and Asher Lynch and their little sister due any day, and Natalie, Emery, Cal and Brooks Kreiner; siblings, Dennis (Kathy) Irwin and Gail VanSumeren; brothers-in-law, Ronald (Susan) Haas and Donald Haas, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and loving wife, Jerry was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad Truemner; sisters, Janet Henika and Barbara Conklin; father and mother-in-law, Frederick and Esther Haas; and brothers-in-law, Thomas Henika, Arthur Conklin and Daniel VanSumeren. Jerry’s family will be present to receive visitors on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center. On Thursday, January 27, 2022, Jerry will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 AM until Jerry’s 11:00 AM Funeral Ceremony at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Saginaw. Pastor Jacob Kempfert will officiate with the interment to be held in Floral Gardens Cemetery.
