Floyd Joseph Solinski, 89, of Hampton Twp., our strong, kind, hardworking, supportive and most loving girl dad, Papa, Great-Papa, brother, uncle and loyal friend was born into eternal life and greeted by his family on the morning of Monday, April 11, 2022 at McLaren Bay Region. Floyd was born at home in Hampton Twp. on August 25, 1932, the son of the late Joseph and Ludwika (Stamnasek) Solinski, and enjoyed growing up on the family farm with his siblings. Floyd attended the "Little Red Schoolhouse" on Nebobish Road. He started working at the young age of 14 years under his father's social security number at the Fertilizer Plant, followed by Aetna Cement, and finally retiring from Hampton Township. During that time he also farmed 100 acres to support his large family. A true lover of the land, Floyd's favorite life work was farming. He continued to work on the family farm right until the young age of 87. Floyd enjoyed trips up north to the Upper Peninsula, always with a truck full of produce in tow, and time spent at the family cabin in Munising, where he made countless friends and enjoyed telling his wonderful stories over the years. Floyd was extremely dedicated to his family, as he bought the farm that had been in his family since 1893. He was a passionate farmer, known as "Farmer Floyd" by many. Proud of his prize produce, he had a successful produce stand with his companion of 30 years, Kay. He and Kay enjoyed going to the UP where they sold produce, spent time at their cabin and the casino, and made many more friends. Floyd was the greatest father of all time to his seven daughters; he was the center of their family. Floyd loved being a father to his seven girls and recently remarked how he "wouldn't mind if any of his kids moved in with him." He adored and was extremely proud of, his seven daughters, his two honorary daughters, and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He shared pictures of his daughters wherever he went. His daughters are proud of his many life accomplishments. He was kind, generous, sensitive, soft-spoken, yet outspoken, and a strong man who was gentle and honest. Floyd was hardworking and ethical, with unlimited respect for life and family. He loved to play polkas on the accordion, playing for his children and grandchildren; there was nothing better than listening to polka bands on Sunday and watching his friends play. Floyd celebrated life, friends and family, most recently throwing an 85th birthday party for all to enjoy. He enjoyed euchre (he was a master) and riding in his gator with his buddy Zeke on his beloved farm. Floyd had many stories, offered advice about farming or equipment, and had a solution for any problem. He made everyone that came to see him feel special. A true family man, Floyd instilled wonderful values in all of his children which will be carried on for generations to come. A devout Catholic, Floyd knelt and prayed every evening prior to bed. He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish (St. Stanislaus Kostka Church), where he will be deeply missed. To carry on his legacy, Floyd leaves his seven daughters, Theresa (Tom) Joles, Mary Bell, Tammie (Todd) Solinski, Kimberly (Mike) Gerhardt, Julie (Rick) Sautter, Sherri (Curt) Colberg, and Karen Barry, and his honorary daughters, Amy Wenglikowski and Brenda (Brad) Czap. He was the most loving and supportive Papa of Jennifer Galsper, Kari Hompstead, Todd (Whitney) Trask, Ashley Trask, Heather Bell, Zachary (Amber) Bell, Jessica (Clayton) Oyler, Lee (Leia) Hickmott, Lauralyn (Gabe) Belden, Joey Bettis, Jared (Beca) Gerhardt, Noah Gerhardt, Carlee Gerhardt, Alysha (Scott) Goss, Austin, Sautter, Ricky Sautter, Joshua Colberg, Shaniah Colberg, Wyatt (Cilisa) Barry, Janessa Barry, Cody Wenglikowski, Mallory Wenglikowski, Kayla (James) Bentley, and Cory Perreou. Also surviving are many great and great-great grandchildren; his sister, Pat (Joe) Badour; sister-in-law, Beatrice Solinski; mother of his daughters, Virginia Talaga; his best friend, Zeke the dog, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bob Bell; his companion of 32 years, Valerie "Kay" Czap, and his siblings, Anthony, Frank, Anna, Verna, Maryann, Clara, and Jack. Floyd's family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 1:00 PM until Floyd's 7:00 PM Vigil at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center. On Wednesday, April 20, 2022, Floyd will be taken to Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish (St. Stanislaus Kostka Church), 1503 Kosciuszko Ave., Bay City, where visiting will continue from 1:00 PM until Floyd's 2:00 PM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Rick Filary will preside with the Rite of Committal to be held in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Salvation Army.
