Gary Howard Banaszak Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Gary Howard Banaszak, 72, of Bay City, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning of Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Brian's House with his family by his side. Gary was born in Bay City on June 25, 1949 to the late Lawrence and Delores (Fritzler) Banaszak. He graduated from Garber High School in 1967. Gary's class was the first class to graduate from Garber. Upon graduation, Gary was drafted into the United States Army. He was attached to Company D Second Battalion 12th Infantry in the 25th Infantry Division. Gary courageously fought in the Vietnam War and was stationed in Dau Tieng, Vietnam. He held two different Military Occupational Specialty service numbers, one was for combat and the other was for being an Ammunition Storage Specialist. Gary received the Purple Heart Badge with one Oak Leaf Cluster. He attained the rank of Sargent E-5 and was decorated with many medals, including the Bronze Star with Valor Attachment, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. Gary was extremely proud of his military service and was honorably discharged on November 27, 1970. After Gary was honorably discharged from the military, he began working for General Motors - Bay City Powertrain as a general laborer. He then moved on to the Bay County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff. Gary did not like to sit still for long, so he continued working for the Post Office as a Mail Carrier. He enjoyed relaxing and watching Fox News. Gary was a member of First Baptist Church, a Life Member of the Purple Heart Society, a Life Member of Disabled American Veterans, and a past Post Commander and Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. To carry on his legacy, Gary leaves his sons, Brandt (Carla) Banaszak and John (Karen) Banaszak; three grandchildren; sister, Sandra (Tony) Windt; brother, Lawrence Banaszak, along with many friends. Gary's parents, Lawrence and Delores Banaszak, welcomed him home to Heaven. Gary's family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 12:00 PM until his 2:00 PM Funeral Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N.
