February 16, 1935 - December 7, 2020
James Francis "Beaver" Poirier, 85, of Munger, our honest, humorous, devoted, and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on the morning of Monday, December 7, 2020 at Brookdale – Bay City. Beaver was born in Hampton Township on February 16, 1935, the son of the late Elmer and Eugenia (Laleman) Poirier. He attended St. Norbert’s School and later attended Bay City Central. Beaver honorably served in the National Guard. While in his hometown of Munger, he happened to meet the former Jeanette Doyen. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on October 2, 1954 in St. Norbert’s Church. Beaver retired from General Motors – Bay City Chevrolet after 34 years of service. He was also a backhoe worker for Henika Builders, was the Merritt Twp. Dump Master, and owner/operator of Beaver’s Trenching, where there was “No hole too wide; no hole too deep.” Beaver enjoyed hunting, riding his three-wheeler on his hunting property in Alger, bonfires and an “occasional” Blatz, and in his younger years, he raced in demolition derbies. More recently, Beaver could be found enjoying trips to the casino and shopping with Jack “White Cloud.” He was a member of the Eagles, P.L.A.V., and was a loving family man. By far, Beaver’s greatest life accomplishment was raising his four sons. His memory will live on for generations to come. Beaver leaves to carry on his legacy, his wife of 66 years, Jeanette Poirier and children, Randy (Laura) Poirier, Mike (Jody) Poirier, Tim (Barb) Poirier, and Greg (Lisa) Poirier. He was the most loving and supportive grandpa of Matt (Shellina) Poirier, Kevin Poirier, Kyle (Heather) Poirier, Nichole (Trevor) Jacobs, Stacie (Scott) VanOchten, Mike (Melanie) Poirier, Lisa (Mark) VanWormer, Andy Poirier, Ben Poirier (Taylor Hausbeck), and Cody Poirier. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren, Connor, Shelby, Ethan, Easton, Parker, Jameson, Megan, Liz, Austin, Katie, Emma, and Madison; sister-in-law, Elaine Poirier, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. In addition to his parents, Beaver was preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene Poirier, Jerry Poirier, and Mary Ann Baranowski. Beaver’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center. The Rite of Committal will be held privately in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Brookdale and The Care Team Hospice for their compassionate care. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
