Kenneth Joseph Sauve Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Kenneth Joseph Sauve, 102, of Kawkawlin, our devoted, innovative, and genuine father and grandfather was born into eternal life on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at The Carriage House. Ken was born in Bay City on September 13, 1919, the son of the late Emery and Sarah (Reno) Sauve. While at a dance, Ken happened to meet the former Irma Marie Drinkwine. Ken and Irma were united in marriage on July 17, 1940 in Standish. In 2005, after nearly 65 years of marriage, Irma preceded Ken in death. Ken worked for Norwalk as a truck driver for 17 years before working for General Motors. In 1978, Ken retired from General Motors, where he was an inspector. Ken enjoyed growing trees, especially Pines and Maples. He was a wonderful gardener who always loved getting his seeds planted as soon as possible. Always fascinated with trains, Ken got to be the “honorary engineer” at Huckleberry Railroad for his 100th birthday and for their 100th anniversary. Ken always said the secret to living to be one hundred was “always keeping busy.” He had a wonderful work ethic, which has lovingly been carried on through his five surviving generations. Always on the go, Ken walked the Mackinac Bridge every Labor Day until he was 90, only missing one year because it was “too windy.” Ken loved the outdoors and loved camping; a hobby he enjoyed right until this year, especially in Lupton and in Ludington, where Ken enjoyed the early morning fishing trips. A true craftsman, Ken was a wonderful “Mr. Fix It” to anything involving wood and enjoyed making birdhouses. In his free time, he also enjoyed baking pies and cookies, making soups, and making his famous pickles. Most of all, Ken loved his family and friends. Always facilitating group gatherings, he enjoyed when everyone was breaking bread together at the K.C. Hall or The Turkey Roost. His zest for life will live on for generations to come. To carry on his legacy, Ken leaves his four daughters, Judy (Gary) Micho and children, Tim Micho, Nancy (Bruce) Hartley, and Patrice (Richard) Grocholski; Margaret (Larry) Tacey and children, Angela Sepos, Brian (Lori) Edsall, Mike Edsall, and Carrie Edsall; Janice Bohley and children, Donald (Stacey) Anderson, Diane (Ken) Rahn, and Shaun (Pauline) Anderson; Jackie (Ted) Freeman and daughter, Kelli (Wayne) Pyeatt, along with several great, and great-great grandchildren. Ken is also survived by his brother, Vernie Sauve, and many nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to his parents and his wife, Ken was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Fred Bohley and siblings, Harvey (Mary Jane) Sauve, Rita (Hank) Lambert, Leonard (Betty) Sauve, Elaine (Arthur) Liss, and Gladys (Walt) Butch. Ken’s family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 6:00 PM Vigil at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center. On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, Ken will be taken to St. Catherine of Siena Parish (St. Vincent de Paul Church), where visiting will continue from 10:00 AM until Kenneth’s 11:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. James Wm. Bessert will preside with the Rite of Committal to be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday in Resurrection of the Lord Cemetery, Standish. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family, c/o Judy Micho, for a memorial tree to be planted in the spring.
