Richard Dereszynski Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Richard Dereszynski, 85, of Hampton Twp., our determined, hardworking, strong, reserved, yet always loving husband, father, grandfather, step-father and step-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Close to Home Assisted Living in Bay City. Richard was born in Detroit on February 6, 1935, the son of the late Walter and Lillian (Watchowski) Dereszynski. Richard proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Truckee, where he was a machinist mate. After being honorably discharged, he went on to work for Marlette Homes, manufacturing homes. He retired as a power plant operator for the state hospitals in Grand Rapids and Lapeer. While working in the plant, Richard owned a small body shop near Kingston, named “Dix Garage.” Richard was a skilled carpenter, who enjoyed his mechanic work and collecting antiques. He was also a self-taught harmonica player, and was even in a singing quartet for a brief time. Richard leaves to carry on his legacy, his wife, the former Antoinette “Toni” Symborski, whom he married on June 10, 1994; his children, Laurie (John) Rayl of Silverwood, Kathryn Tait of Lakeland, FL, Sherry (Edward) Kolacz of Caro, David (Lisa) Dereszynski of Berthord, CO, Rachelle Dereszynski (Nelson Gomez) of Panama City, FL, George Dereszynski of Rangeley, ME, and Charlotte (Kenneth) Tajak of Alanson; three step-children, Terri (Robert) VanOchten of Munger, Julie VanTol of Bay City, and Steve VanTol of Essexville; grandchildren, Dan (Cheri) Rayl, Jeremy (Bobbi) Rayl, Sarah (Chris) Cooper, Brandon (Delaila) Tait, Cameron Tait, Emily Kolacz (John Childers), Nolan Kolacz, Alex (Laura) Dereszynski, Aaron Dereszynski, Michael, Kristen, Joshua, and Lauren McLaughlin; Izabella, Arianna, Isaiah, Noah, and Thia Dereszynski, and Simon Tajak; step-grandkids, Duane (Stephanie) Ahrens, Kayla Ahrens, Kevin (Kayla) Ahrens, Hailey, Sean, and Mica VanTol; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas, and Lydia Rayl; Brianna and James Rayl, Thomas Cooper, Gunner Tait, and Jack Dereszynski; three step-great grandchildren, Trace Ahrens, Pierce and Roslyn Ahrens; brother, Frank Derris of Alameda, CA, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his previous wives, Donna (Dibble) Wild (married on November 2, 1957) and Sandra (Ward) Dereszynski (married February 14, 1983 and passed away on February 8, 1992), and his brothers, William Dereszynski, James Derris, and Gerald Dereszynski. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial will be held at a later date and will be announced by Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
