March 8, 1943 - July 19, 2021
Robert Carl Scherzer, 78, of Swan Creek Twp., our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and most devoted teacher and mentor went Home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Monday, July 19, 2021, at The Toni & Trish House in Auburn. Bob was born in Saginaw on March 8, 1943, the son of the late Carl Frederick and Mary (Rockwell) Scherzer. He attended Hemlock Elementary, St. John Lutheran School, and was a graduate of St. Charles High School. Bob continued his education at Central Michigan University, receiving his Master’s Degree in Education. Bob was united in marriage on June 26, 1971, to the former Julianne Hopp, whom he met through her sister, Carolyn Kerns. Their marriage was blessed with 47 years and countless memories. Sadly, Julianne preceded Bob in death on April 11, 2018. Robert was proud of the fact that this year they would have been celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Bob was a well-respected and much-loved educator at Heritage High School and Douglas MacArthur High School for 31 years, guiding students through their automotive, woodshop, and technical education classes. Bob also enjoyed time spent on the Tri-Township Fire Department, where he was active for 23 years. Bob and Julianne were faithful members of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hemlock, where he will be deeply missed. His other hobbies included collecting and restoring antique cars and fire trucks (especially attending the Hershey Car Meet for over 40 years), and staying active with his side-business, “Just In Time Restorations.” Bob was a wonderful animal lover and gave a loving home to the many cats that crossed his path. To carry on his legacy, Bob leaves behind his son, Ryan (Ashley) Scherzer and daughter, Heidi Scherzer; grandson, Augustus Scherzer; brother, Rockwell Scherzer; sister, Rosemary (Jim) Martineau; and in-laws, Charles Kerns, Carolyn Kerns, and Connie Hopp; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Julianne, Bob was welcomed home to Heaven by his sister, Nancy (Mike) Bullinger, sister-in-law, Anita Scherzer, and brother-in-law, Vern Hopp. Bob’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, July 22, 2021, from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1550 Midland Rd., between State & Gratiot. On Friday, July 23, 2021, Bob will be taken to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2461 N. Raucholz Rd., Hemlock, where visiting will continue at 10:00 AM until Bob's 11:00 AM Funeral Ceremony. Rev. Richard E. Mundt will officiate with the final committal in Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Toni & Trish House or the Humane Society of Midland County. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
