Robert Zavala Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Robert Zavala, 49, of Midland, formerly of Bay City, was born into eternal life unexpectedly on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Rob was born on June 22, 1971, the son of the late Jesus Zavala, Sr. and the former Beatrice (Ontiveros) Zavala. Growing up, Rob enjoyed playing baseball for Northeast Little League, along with basketball throughout all his school years. He attended St. Joseph School, where he excelled in football. He went on to play football for All Saints High School and graduated with the Class of 1989. During his senior year, Rob was the recipient of the Golden Helmet Award and crowned Homecoming King. Rob attended Saginaw Valley State University and later worked for Coca Cola for many years. His true love in life was working at “The Big House,” where he was a devoted usher for the football and basketball seasons. Rob’s love for the University of Michigan sports was unwavering. In addition to watching all the games, he also enjoyed hanging out with his nephews and friends, along with following the Dallas Cowboys. Rob's passing has left an unfillable void in the hearts of all those he knew. Rob’s larger-than-life, friendly personality, generous heart, and dedication to all those he knew and loved will live on for years to come. Rob leaves to carry on his legacy, his six siblings: Jesus Zavala, Jr. “Jesse” and wife, Katrina, Angelita and husband, Ruben Ramirez, Lillie and husband, Rodolfo Aguirre, Juan Martin Zavala, Rosa Facundo, and Joe Zavala; his partner-in-life of 10 years, Dana Pressnall & Family; beloved dog, Dallas Zavala, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless friends and U of M family members. Rob is now joyfully reunited with his loving parents and nephew, Ruben Ramirez, Jr, who preceded him in death. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a Funeral Mass for close family and friends will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville. Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera will officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Public visiting will be held at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM. The amount of people that reached out to his family was amazing like no other.” In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to All Saints Athletic Association.
