Russell Eddie Herzberg, 75, of Bay City, our generous, witty, and benevolent husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on Sunday, August 9, 2020 in Virginia under the care of his daughter and hospice. Russ was born in Standish on September 28, 1944, the son of the late Ernest Herzberg, Sr., and the former Ellen Nielsen. Russ proudly served in the U.S. Army from December 27, 1961 to December 14, 1964. Upon his return from Germany, Russ met the former Donna Eigner and they were united in marriage on July 31, 1965. After 51 1/2 years of service, Russ retired from General Motors as a machinery repairman. He was a proud member of the U.A.W., and enjoyed baseball and cars. Russ leaves to carry on his legacy, his wife of 55 years, Donna Herzberg, and their children: Sandra Herzberg and Christine Flink (Richard); grandchildren, Claudia Fimian (Derek), Joshua Gorski, and Raine Flink; great-grandchildren, Ryder Stanton and Mason Fimian; siblings, Dorothy Crawford and Elvin Herzberg (Jan), along with his in-laws, Ken Eigner (Marguerite), Mary Santhany (Martin), Marge Eigner, Nancy Eigner, Diana Eigner, Josephine Herzberg, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his siblings, Eldon Herzberg, Ernest Herzberg, Jr., Richard Herzberg, Eleanor Gary, Elma Dishaw, Eugene Herzberg, Erma Donaldson, Eli Herzberg, Ronnie Herzberg, and Donnie Herzberg; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo & Phyllis Eigner, Sr., and in-laws, Carol Abeare, Leo Eigner, and Jim Eigner. A tented outdoor Life Celebration will be held on the grounds of Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, with Fr. Dale Orlik officiating. Visiting will be outdoors after 4:00 PM.
