May 15, 1944 - February 5, 2021
Sandra Kay Grochowski, 76, of Essexville, our resilient, faithful, compassionate, and most caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend was born into eternal life in the morning of Friday, February 5, 2021 at her home. Sandy was born in Bay City on May 15, 1944, the daughter of the late Casmer and Irene (Socia) Kryszak. Through her sister Mary, and Bob’s brother, Dave, Sandy met Robert “Bob” Grochowski. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on June 28, 1969 in St. John the Evangelist Church. After 44 years of marriage, Bob preceded Sandy in death on October 7, 2013. Those who knew Sandy will forever remember her strong-willed and determined ways. Sandy’s own life challenges naturally led her to be a compassionate and empathetic individual, always thinking of others before herself. Sandy was meticulous with details and enjoyed her time spent working for Hampton Township as a secretary, prior to motherhood. Sandy and Bob also enjoyed working the polls for the City of Essexville. She was a devout prayer warrior and active member of the prayer line at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, where she was deeply loved. In her free time, Sandy enjoyed following the Detroit Tigers, completing crossword puzzles, and following Dancing with the Stars and Jeopardy. True to her Polish heritage, Sandy was known for her wonderful Sunday family breakfasts, always complete with polka playing in the background. Sandy’s unwavering love for her family and friends will forever live on. Sandy leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Jeff Grochowski of Essexville and Jill Quinlan of Freeland. Sandy was the proud and loving Grandma and “Gaga” of Claire and Matthew Quinlan, Casey Grochowski, David Swanson, and their mother, Amy. She also leaves behind her twin sister, Shirley and husband, Richard Howden and sister, Mary and husband, David Wesolowski, both of Essexville; brother-in-law, Dan (Kathy) Wesolowski; many nieces and nephews, along with her special neighbors and dear friends, Linda French, Kathy Madziar, Marie Howe, and Betty Prohaska. In addition to her parents and her husband, Sandy was welcomed home to Heaven by her brothers, Kenneth, Robert, and Ronald Kryszak; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adrian and Eleanor Wesolowski, and her sister-in-law, Barb Dinsmore. Sandy’s family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center. On Friday, February 12, 2021, Sandy will be taken to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville, where visiting will continue from 10:00 AM until Sandy’s 11:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish or the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.skorupskis.com.
