Dr. Thomas Petoskey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dr. Thomas Petoskey, 67, of Westchester, California, our intelligent, quiet and kind nephew, cousin and friend passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at PIH Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, California. Tom was born in Bay City on February 17, 1955, the son of the late Walton R. and Henrietta V. (Wesolowski) Petoskey. He graduated from All Saints High School. Tom obtained his Bachelor of Education at the University of Detroit. He continued his education and earned a PhD in Pharmacy from Oklahoma City University. Tom was employed by Loyola Marymount University, working in the labs, then he joined St. Anastasia School as a middle school Science and Mathematics Teacher. He was awarded the Provost Award at Loyola Marymount University in 2017. Tom was given this honor for almost 30 years of service to the school on the IACUC committee. IACUC stands for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee which regulates oversight and establishes policies related to the number of animals approved for use in research, education, and testing at LMU. Tom was a person who lived life to the fullest. He was an avid sports enthusiast who never missed an opportunity to root for his favorite teams - the Los Angeles Lakers and the Detroit Tigers. He was a music lover and attended many concerts. While living in Los Angeles, Tom developed a hobby of collecting autographs from celebrities while out and about or at special events. He collected autographed copies of their books/First Editions, autographed pictures and other memorabilia. However, Tom's greatest passion was for teaching. Tom made a tremendous impact on a multitude of students he taught over the years. His legacy will live on in each of them, as well as in everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Tom leaves behind uncle, James (Audrey) Wesolowski; aunt, Jean Wesolowski; many cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his grandparents, Thomas and Agnes Wesolowski, and Howard and Anne Petoskey, and many aunts and uncles, and one cousin, Joseph Burzynski. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be planned at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N.
