William "Bill" Frederick Tockstein

William Frederick Tockstein, 77, affectionately known by many as “Bill the Barber,” our devoted, fun, and outgoing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend was born into eternal life on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Bay Shores Senior Care & Rehab Center. Bill was born in Bay City on May 2, 1944, the son of the late Leslie and Gertrude (Phiel) Tockstein. He was a 1962 graduate of St. James High School. While in high school, Bill met the former Barbara Jane Polzin. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on August 14, 1965. Their 56 years were blessed with two daughters and countless memories. Bill worked as a barber for 49 years and was deeply respected by many. When not working, he enjoyed time spent outdoors, especially working in his yard. Be it mini trips, BBQ’s, or any type of get together, Bill loved time spent with family and friends. To know Bill was to love him. Throughout his life’s journey, Bill touched the lives of hearts of so many, and will be forever missed. To carry on his legacy, Bill leaves his faithful wife, Barb, and their two daughters, Michelle (Gregory) Donakowski and Tammy (Phillip) Helmreich; grandchildren, Jacob (Samantha) Hebert, Bradley (Jenna) Hebert, Brody Bird, and Gavin Bird; one great-grandchild on the way; sister, Jan (Ron) Kurchak; sister-in-law, Jane Tockstein, along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sons-in-law, John Bird and Curtis Hebert; brother, Frederick William Tockstein; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Margaret (McLean) Polzin, and his in-laws, Nancy (Kenneth) Bouchard and James “Jimmy” Polzin. Bill’s family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, March 14, 2022 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 from 10:00 AM until Bill’s 11:00 am Life Celebration at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center. Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera will preside with cremation to follow. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
